Dutch Roots Flower Farm is located on less than an acre in central Long Island, New York. Founder and owner Liz Marcellus has been in the flower business ever since graduating college with a degree in Horticulture. Moving to Sayville gave us a property with a blank canvas 15 years ago. Every year we add a bit more to what we offer. We continue to search out diverse varieties of unique, uncommon flowers and plants. We provide seasonal bouquets to our loyal local customers as well as plants specifically chosen to help pollinators.
Did you know that approximately 80% of the flowers sold here in the U.S. are grown in other countries and flown in? Most of these flowers are grown using harsh chemicals. Every bunch of flowers is sprayed with fungicide before it can enter the country. They are harvested, bunched and boxed using plastic, plastic and more plastic. They can sit for hours on an airport tarmac before finally being loaded onto the plane. Think of all the fossil fuels shipping all these flowers ! Many flowers simply don't ship well at all due to the many hours out of water.
When you buy from your local flower farmer you're choosing :
* Flowers that have been picked within a few days at most
* Flowers you don't always see in stores
*Flowers grown with care and love for the planet and its threatened birds and bees
* Flowers that help support your local community
* Flowers you can look at on your table and know no harm was done in the growing
